Yes, I did this and the problem is exactly the same. The error message is exactly as before: it does not perform the final link as Andrea pointed out.
I think you have to clean up the setup first. Do it like this, this time:
$ make distclean $ ./configure --disable-visibility $ make
This has to work. ;-)
If it doesn't, then please send me again the results, even if they look exactly the same.
